Trip to Indy

We finished off Spring Break week down in Indianapolis. Lane has been going down to Indy every Friday evening for the past 8 weeks taking a prep-course for the PE (professional engineer) exam. He figured the family should tag along with him to celebrate his last class.

We went back to the Children's Musuem on Friday. It was fun as always (see previous post "Explorations"). Moriah was even able to be a part of the playing this time. Can't believe she's getting big enough for that already. We were playing in the Playscape exhibit which is only for children 5 years and younger. There is a separate area for just babies to play. Moriah loved being able to get all those toys in her mouth. She loved talking to the cute baby in the mirror too.

For the older kids, there is a water table, sand table, train set, construction stuff, a play house, a dog house, oh goodness just lots of things. And this is only one small section of the museum! It's an incredible place. However after we'd been playing for about an hour, we discovered that J.D. had a fever. Poor guy. Kinda hard to have fun when you feel icky. Since it was too early to check into the hotel room, we opted for driving around the city to find J.D. some medicine and let Matt & Moriah take a nap.

We stayed at a hotel along Canal Walk near downtown Indianapolis. To celebrate St. Patrick's Day the canal was turned very GREEN. The boys were fascinated with it. Lane mentioned something about ulcers while constantly having to keep them away from the edge. We had started the day with a Veggie Tales movie about St. Patrick's Day hoping that would be a nice easy way to explain the holiday to the boys. But J.D. had many, many questions about St. Patrick and why everything is green. He keeps us on our toes with all his questions.

After a nice evening and morning spent in the hotel (watching way too much TV & letting J.D. recuperate from his fever), we went over to the Indianapolis Zoo. They had a storytime featuring Winnie the Pooh that we all enjoyed. I had to leave to change Moriah's diaper but I hear that Matt was so excited to hug Pooh bear that he just wouldn't let him go. J.D. asked us later why we thought that Winnie the Pooh was just a character in a story - "I just saw him. He's real."

It was a bit chilly at the zoo and only a few of the animals were out. We had always wondered what the zoo was like in the wintertime, so now we know. J.D. enjoyed carrying a stick all over the zoo, Matt was really excited to see a baby elephant, and Moriah napped all bundled up in the Baby B'Jorn. It was a short, low-key visit to the zoo.

Well Spring Break has come to an end. We had such a great time. But now we will celebrate Lane's return to classes with his 32nd birthday on Monday! And I will likely spend the week trying to dig through the mountains of laundry we accumulated during the break. Never ending...
